RESCUE BAPTIST CHURCH

SUNDAY MORNING JULY 4, 2021

Heb 1:1-3

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

WELCOME TO RESCUE BAPTIST CHURCH

“Sinners are welcome at this church. We are a local body of the Lord Jesus Christ. As you spend time with us, you’ll soon discover we’re an imperfect church, with an imperfect pastor, yet by God’s undeserved grace, we preach, believe, and know the perfect gospel of our never-failing Lord Jesus Christ. We call His name Jesus for He shall, (not might, not maybe) but shall save His people from their sins, and every sinner that trusts in Christ is complete in Him, saved

to the uttermost” HEBREWS 7:25                                           (copied)

AMAZING GRACE

“THE OBEDIENCE OF ONE” (Romans 5:19)

“The essence of the gospel is substitution.  The everlasting salvation of God's elect is in no way dependent upon, or attributed to, anything done by us. ‘Salvation is of the Lord!’  God's gift of eternal life, all the blessings of grace in this life, and all the blessedness of eternal glory in the life to come are freely bestowed upon every believing sinner only as the result of the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ, our Substitute. We could never earn or merit everlasting salvation.  BUT THE LORD JESUS CHRIST HAS EARNED THE ETERNAL SALVATION OF GOD'S ELECT.  GOD IN JUSTICE, RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND TRUTH MUST REWARD HIS SON WITH THE SALVATION OF EVERY SOUL FOR WHOM HE LIVED, DIED, AND ROSE AGAIN.  ‘For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of One shall many be made righteous.’  As we were made sinners in the eyes of God's law and justice by the sin and fall of our father Adam, though we had not yet committed any actual sin of our own, even so we are made righteous by the life and death of our Lord Jesus Christ as our Substitute, though we have no actual righteousness of our own.

BY HIS OBEDIENCE IN LIFE AS OUR REPRESENTATIVE, CHRIST BROUGHT IN AN EVERLASTING RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR US.  God in his law required that we live in perfect righteousness, entirely without sin, loving God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and our neighbors as ourselves.  This is what Christ has done for us.  In him all who believe have perfectly obeyed God's law.

BY HIS OBEDIENCE IN DEATH, THE SON OF GOD SATISFIED THE PENALTY OF THE LAW AGAINST SIN AS OUR SUBSTITUTE.  He was made to be sin for us by Divine imputation.  And, when he was made to be sin for us, our Substitute received the wages of sin - death.  In him all who believe died under penalty of God's law.

NOW GOD IMPUTES THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF HIS SON TO EVERY BELIEVER. In exactly the same way as Christ was made to be sin for us, and was rewarded with death because of sin, we are made to be the righteousness of God in him.

Being righteous in Christ, WE SHALL BE REWARDED FOR OUR PERFECT RIGHTEOUSNESS WITH ETERNAL GLORY.”

                                                                                    Pastor Don Fortner

A MEDIATOR IS NOT OF ONE, BUT GOD IS ONE

Gal 3v20

If someone robs a man of his property, he will hire a prosecutor, convict the robber, seek restitution and more. How much more if the robber blamed the very one he robbed and spewed hatred, maligning him all over town. Even an uninvolved third party whose property was not touched will quickly side with the robbed and condemn the robber. But whoever heard of the one robbed, hated, blamed and maligned providing a mediator for his offender to bring them together in peace?

A mediator is not a representative of one but of two. But God is one of the two, even the offended one that we offended! Yet, though we were guilty and worthy of death, God did not send a lawyer to prosecute nor a judge to condemn. The very God we offended provided the Mediator who represented the interests of not one, but both parties, reconciling us to himself. Even more amazing, the Mediator that God provided is his only begotten Son! Still more amazing “He”—the Offended—“hath made him”—his Son—“sin for us, who knew no sin, that we—his ungodly elect—might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Cor 5:21).

How exceedingly great is God’s glory! As high as the heaven is above the earth so are his thoughts above our thoughts! Matchless love! Matchless grace! Melting the hard hearted! Creating peacemakers! “Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another” (1 Jn 4: 10-11).

                                                                                       Pastor Clay Curtis

“Having religion is one thing, but knowing and walking with Christ is different! Having religion the world understands and tolerates. But free grace the world neither understands, nor tolerates! Any two religious errors can walk together and permit them both to exist!   But the truth of God’s grace cannot exist with error – for one always must go!”                                                  Pastor Henry Mahan

“We don’t preach health, wealth, and spiritual prosperity for the world.  We preach trials, tribulations, chastisement, affliction, and sufferings for the spiritually called.”

                                                                           Brother Mike Goettina

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.”    1 John 1:8

John is not talking about the act of sinning in this verse. John is talking about WHAT we are. He is talking about our sinful nature. The word “sin” in this verse is used as a noun and not a verb. If we say we are not sinful creatures, if we don’t confess and understand that sin is what we are, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. A true believer is always conscious of their sin nature. The word “sin” in this verse means “offense,” it is a noun, we by nature are offensive to God. Our sin is an offense to God because it is against Him. (Psalm 51:4) John went on to say, “If we confess our sins, (our offenses, if we confess what we are, not just what we do) he (God) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” “If we say that we have not sinned (that word “sinned” is used as a verb, it means the act of sinning) we make him (God) a liar, and his word is not in us.” (1 John 1:9-10) Truly we are sinners because we sin, but more accurately said, “We sin because we are sinners.”

May God enable us to truly confess that sin is what we are, all the while trusting in Christ Jesus alone as our great High Priest, Substitute and Sacrifice for sin. The putting away of our sin can only be accomplished when He makes us new creatures. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17) Again, we are shut up to the grace and the mercy of God that is found in Christ alone. Salvation is of the Lord!

                                                                         Pastor David Eddmenson

“As soon as the Lord gives to any believer spiritual light, he begins to separate himself from the darkness. The world’s religion used to satisfy him.  If there was a pretty looking building, and a good-looking minister who could put his words together well, and garnish the altar finely, the child of darkness did not care what he heard; whether the gospel was preached or not.  But so soon as he receives spiritual light, he cries, ‘All this is nothing to me, I need light and truth, and I cannot go to hear anything but the gospel.’ He separates himself from the world’s religion, finds out where Christ is preached, and goes there.”                                                              C. H. Spurgeon

“All true followers of the Lord Jesus Christ were chosen in Him by God the Father, predestinated unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, and made accepted in the Beloved Son of God before time began (Eph. 1:3 - 6).  In the fulness of time God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons (Gal. 4:4 - 5).  When our Lord cried out “It is finished”, He laid down His life for His sheep (John 19:30; John 10:15 - 16). He had perfectly satisfied the Holy Justice of God for His elect by meeting all the conditions of the eternal covenant of grace.  After His glorious resurrection, He entered into heaven itself, there to appear in the presence of God for us, for all those He redeemed with His precious blood (Heb. 9:24; Gal. 3:13).  “.. by His own blood He (Christ) entered in once into the holy place, HAVING OBTAINED eternal redemption for us” (Heb. 9:12).  When it pleases God, He reveals His Gospel truths to His chosen, blood-bought children (Mt. 11:25 - 27). All who experience the miracle of The New Birth have heard the voice of Jesus Christ who has called us out of darkness and has translated us into His eternal kingdom.  By His gift of faith to us, we do follow the One who loved us, and gave Himself for us.”

                                                                                  Pastor Gene Harmon

"How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them!" (Psalm 139:17).

“Have you thought what a comfort it is to have a God we can trust, a God who condescends to think on us, to consider our needs, and then supply them?  What if all we had to believe in was ‘the laws of nature’, ‘mother nature’, ‘the big Guy’, ‘a Supreme Being’, or, ‘the man upstairs’?  What if all we had to look forward to was some set of ‘laws’ and ‘powers’ acting apart from God?  There are many who try to get away from the thought of a personal God; One who redeems, preserves, and provides for His people.  The Bible declares a personal God who takes a special interest in His people, and thinks on them with a tender, gracious consideration.  This is what David said, ‘How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them!’ What a blessing it is to be able to pray, ‘Our Father, who art in Heaven.’ The greatest blessing is to know God thinks on us.”

“And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.” Rev 21v6

Those thirsty for spiritual life are given the “water of life” freely! What a magnificent work! Where did this work of spiritual life begin?  Christ is the Alpha, the firstborn. Our spiritual life began in Him. Where was this work of spiritual life completed and forever finished?  Christ is the Omega. He is the end of the law for righteousness - the author and finisher of our faith. And, being conformed to His likeness is the end state for all believers.

Has the Spirit shown you that you cannot begin your own life and you cannot sustain your soul to the end? Are you thirsty for everlasting life? Come to Chirst the living water! When you come to Him, thirsty and unable, there is nothing more to do! The Lord spoke to John and said “Write: for these words are true and faithful.” … “IT IS DONE”.

“My English dictionary defines a Surety as ‘One who is legally liable for the debt, default, or failure of another’.  The Lord Jesus Christ is the Surety of the everlasting covenant of grace (Heb. 7:22; 13:20).  Before the foundation of the world, He covenanted with the Father to be the Surety for the elect (Rev. 13:8).  From that time the Father looked to Him to answer for those sinners, not as a mere co-signer, sponsor, or helper, to make up for their deficiencies, but to assume and fully discharge ALL of their debts and obligation, for they were (are) totally bankrupt!  From the very moment that He, by covenant, agreed to be their Surety, the Father no longer looked to them but to Him, for all that they owed.  He fully satisfied God in their behalf.  Therefore, they MUST be set free and enter into the glories of Heaven.  What a message of Hope this is to guilty sinners!  Full, free, everlasting salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ, their Surety, BY FAITH, TRUST AND CONFIDENCE IN HIM.”

Our Assemblies

By God’s all-wise appointment, our assemblies are the life, the food, and the nourishment of our souls.  It is the main way whereby we publicly identify with Christ and His Gospel.  We evidence our love for Christ by our loyalty and support of one another in opposition to all false worship.  Many things will rise up in competition to the diligent attendance of our assemblies.  We must recognize and refuse to give in to anything that is opposed to what Christ commands.  The total falling away of a graceless professor always begins with this neglect, this disassociation with God’s people (Heb. 10:25).                          John Owen

Forgiveness

“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile”  (Psalm 32:1-2).

“Forgiven, covered, not imputed! The accumulation of these synonyms not only sets forth various aspects of pardon, but triumphantly celebrates the completeness and certainty of the gift.

Forgiven, to lift and bear away a load or burden.

Covered, to cover over, as one might do with some foul-smelling odor.  What do you do with a dead, rotten foul smelling carcass?  Dig a hole and drop it in and cover it over.  So a man’s sin is covered over and ceases to be an evidence before the Divine Eye that sees all things. He himself casts a merciful veil of the blood of Jesus over it and hides it from himself.

A similar idea is included in that last word not imputed; the sin is not reckoned or charged.  God does not write it down in his great book on the debt side of the man’s account.

These set forth the great and blessed truth that a man’s transgressions may become, in so far as the Divine heart and the Divine dealings with him are concerned, non-existent!

“If you wish to know if the gospel you are hearing preached is the gospel of God, ask yourself this question, ‘Who gets the glory?’  If you wish to know whether your religious experience is of the flesh or of the Lord, ask yourself the same thing, ‘Who gets the glory?’  Also, examine all your gifts, works, and missionary efforts by the same rule, ‘Who gets the glory?’  God will not share His glory!  That which is of God, from God, and for God’s glory will be blessed with His presence and power ‘that no flesh should glory in His presence. ... that, according as it is written, he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.’ (1 Corinthians 1:29, 31).”

HEATHENISH LUCK

“My times are in thy hand” (Psa. 31:15

Not only are we ourselves in the hand of the Lord, but all that surrounds us. Our times make up a kind of atmosphere of existence; and all this is under divine arrangement. We dwell within the palm of God’s hand. We are absolutely at His disposal, and all our circumstances are arranged by Him in all their details. We are comforted to have it so.

How came the Psalmist’s times to be thus in God’s hand? I should answer, that they were there in the order of nature, according to the eternal purpose and decree of God. All things are ordained of God, and are settled by Him, according to His wise and holy predestination. Whatsoever happeneth here happeneth but by chance, but according to the counsel of the Most High. The acts and deeds of men below, though left wholly to their own wills, are the counterpart of that which is written in the purpose of heaven. The open acts of Providence below tally exactly with that which is written in the secret book, which no eye of man or angel as yet has scanned. This eternal purpose superintended our birth. “In thy book all my members were written which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them” (Psa. 139:16) In thy book, every footstep of every creature is recorded before the creature is made. God has mapped out the pathway of every man who traverses the plains of life. Some may doubt this; but all agree that God foresees all things; and how can they be certainly foreseen unless they are certain to be?  It is no means comfort to a man of God that he feels that, by divine arrangement and sacred predestination, his times are in the hand of God…

It would be a hideous thought to us if any one point of our life-story were let to chance, or to the frivolities of our own fancy…. Our Puritanic fathers walked with God the more readily because they believed in God as arranging everything in their daily business and domestic life; and the saw Him in the history of the nation, and in all the events which transpired. The tendency of this age is to get further and further from God….

“My times are in thy hand.” Then there is nothing left to chance. Events happen not to men by a fortune which has no order of purpose in it. Chance is a heathenish idea which the teaching of the Word has cast down, even as the ark threw down Dragon, and brake him in pieces. Blessed is that man who has done with chance, who never speaks of luck; but believes that, from the least even to the greatest, all things are ordained of the Lord. We dare not leave out the least event. The creeping of an aphis upon a rosebud, is as surely arranged by the decree of Providence, as the march of a pestilence through a nation. Believe ye this; for if the least be omitted from the supreme government, so may the next be, and the next till nothing is left in the divine hand. There is no place for chance, since God filleth all things.

“Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth” (Rev. 19:6)  C. H. SPUREGEON
