“Jesus Christ is Lord!” (Philippians 2:11)

“This is the result of our Savior’s finished work of righteousness and redemption on the earth as our Substitute.  Paul is telling us that all the vast empire of God’s creation has been placed under the dominion of the God-man, our Savior.  He is telling us that there is no limit to the realm and sphere of our Redeemer’s total sovereignty. He is Lord of all.  Christ is Lord of all people, Lord of all things and Lord of all events.  The Lord God has given to his Son ‘a name which is above every name’; and the name he has given him is ‘Lord Supreme’.

Jesus Christ is Lord over all people upon this earth.  He is Lord over the righteous and the wicked, the living and the dead, the believing and the unbelieving (Romans14:9).  Believers recognize, acknowledge and willingly surrender to his lordship.  Unbelievers deny it and rebel against it.  But he is none the less Lord.  All are under his control, do his bidding, perform his will and accomplish his purpose, always and in all things.

Jesus Christ is Lord over all the powers of darkness (Colossians 2:15).  Those souls damned forever in hell, the demons of hell and Satan himself are all under the dominion of King Jesus.  Not one of our Lord’s enemies can breathe or move, except by his permission: and even then their moves are governed by him to accomplish nothing but good for his people and the eternal purpose of God (Job 1:12; Job 2:6).

Jesus Christ is Lord over all the affairs of providence (Isaiah 53:10-12; Romans8:28; Hebrews 1:1-3).  I rejoice to tell you that there is no place in this universe, from the throne of God in the highest glory to the lowest pit of deepest hell, where Jesus Christ does not rule in total, absolute, sovereign power.  God’s creation is not out of control.  Nothing is thrown into confusion.  Jesus Christ is Lord.  His purpose is being accomplished.

And Jesus Christ is Lord over all the vast regions of heaven (Hebrews12:10.) The King of the City Beautiful is Immanuel, God in our nature.  The light of that city is Christ himself. The reward of heaven is Christ. All the songs of the redeemed in heaven shall be praises to the Lord the Lamb forever.”

“Who is even at the right hand of God.”

--Romans 8:34--

“He who was once despised and rejected of men, now occupies the honourable position of a beloved and honoured Son.  The right hand of God is the place of majesty and favour.  Our Lord Jesus is his people’s representative.  When he died for them, they had rest; when he rose again for them, they had liberty; when he sat down at his Father’s right hand, they had favour, and honour, and dignity.  The raising and elevation of Christ is the elevation, the acceptance, and enshrinement, the glorifying of all his people, for he is their head and representative.  This sitting at the right hand of God, then, is to be viewed as the acceptance of the person of the Surety, the reception of the Representative, and therefore, the acceptance of our souls.  O saint, see in this thy sure freedom from condemnation. ‘Who is he that condemneth?’  Who shall condemn the men who are in Jesus at the right hand of God?

The right hand is the place of power.  Christ at the right hand of God hath all power in heaven and in earth. Who shall fight against the people who have such power vested in their Captain? O my soul, what can destroy thee if Omnipotence be thy helper?  If the aegis (shield) of the Almighty cover thee, what sword can smite thee?  Rest thou secure.  If Jesus is thine all-prevailing King, and hath trodden thine enemies beneath his feet; if sin, death, and hell are all vanquished by him, and thou art represented in him, by no possibility canst thou be destroyed.”

                       ‘Jesus’ tremendous name,

Puts all our foes to flight:

Jesus, the meek, the angry Lamb,

                        A Lion is in fight.

                        By all hell’s host withstood;

                        We all hell’s host o’erthrow

And conquering them, through Jesus’ blood

                        We still to conquer go’

--C. H. Spurgeon

If it was God’s desire to save all of Adam’s posterity, all would be saved, for it is written: “But He (God) is in one mind, and who can turn Him? and what His soul desireth, even that He doeth” (Job 23:13).

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

He Gave All to the Heir

“In Genesis 25: 5, God tells us that Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac.  Faith from its very concept perceives the promises of God fulfilled in the coming of a promised heir.  ‘In Isaac shall thy seed be called.’  This heir must be born of promise; born by the power and presence of God.  He must be distinguished from the heirs of the flesh.  He must be seen on the altar of sacrifice as a substitute and then raised from the dead to accomplish the purpose of God.  This heir must be seen united to a loving bride in order to fulfill the blessed promise.

Seeing the heir in his proper light the man of faith commits all that he has into his hands.  He commits his life, death, income, posterity, friends, future, judgment, and the eternal destiny of his soul unto the power and good will of God’s appointed heir.  In the end it was declared ‘and Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac.’   The end of faith is total commitment to the Son.”

“‘Able to save’ means something more than just delivering men from hell.  ‘Able to save’ is the whole work of salvation from the first conviction of sin to complete glorification.  Christ is not only ‘Able to save’ those who REPENT, but He is able to make men repent.  Christ is not only ‘Able to save’ those who BELIEVE, but He is able to give a new heart and work faith in men.  Christ is not only ‘Able to save’ those who CONTINUE IN THE FAITH, but He is able to keep us from falling and give us a holy desire to be like Him.”

“The Lord alone shall be exalted in that day”

--Isaiah 2:11; 2:17--

In all of old eternity, since time began, and in all  eternity when time will be no more, GOD ALONE HAS BEEN, AND SHALL BE, IN ABSOLUTE SOVEREIGN CONTROL OVER ALL THINGS!  But since the fall of Adam, sinful, unregenerate, rebellious men and women refuse to acknowledge that God works ALL THINGS after the counsel of His own will.  Today is no different than any other day in the history of fallen humanity.  This generation of sinful, ungodly rebels, which includes the majority of professing Christians, refuse to bow down to Jesus Christ, the risen, exalted, glorified God-man, confessing Him as LORD OF ALL. BUT THEY WILL!  God Himself said, in Isaiah 45:23 - “I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.”  Compare that verse with Philippians 2:8 - 11, which,  speaking of Jesus Christ, says: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”  When Jesus Christ returns in all of His glory, every eye shall see Him.  The Lord alone shall be exalted IN THAT DAY.  Bow down to the sovereign Lordship of Jesus Christ RIGHT NOW, believing that He, by the supreme sacrifice of Himself, obtained eternal redemption for you, or die in your sins and spend eternity in hell.

“Genesis is the book of beginnings, and in this book of beginnings everything speaks of Christ.  Christ is the tree of life in the midst of the Garden of Eden.  He is the promised Seed of the woman, who crushed the serpent’s head.  He is the Lamb whose blood was represented in Abel’s sacrifice.  He is the one whom Enoch believed, by whom he pleased God.  He is the ark by which sinners are saved from the flood of God’s wrath.  Christ is the seed of promise who came from Abraham’s loins, in whom all the nations of the earth are blessed.  He is the Lamb of sacrifice whom God provided to die in the place of his chosen ones.  He is the ladder Jacob saw, by whom the blessings of God come down to men, and by whom men ascend to God.  Christ is that priest after the order of Melchizedek, by whom God’s elect are blessed.  He is our Joseph, ruling over all things, in whom all things are, and from whom all things come.  He is the surety portrayed in Judah.  He is the lawgiver prophesied by Jacob.  In the book of beginnings, ‘Christ is all, and in all’.”

God our Father has made all of His elect ‘ACCEPTED’ in His Beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.  The Eternal Son of God came into this world to pay the ransom price in full for all the sins of a ‘PARTICULAR PEOPLE’, those who were chosen in Christ before this world was created.  It was the SOVEREIGN GRACE of God that chose HIS PEOPLE, the SOVEREIGN GRACE of God that purchased HIS PEOPLE, and the SOVEREIGN GRACE of God that gave HIS PEOPLE eternal life.  Brethren, if we have Jesus Christ, WE HAVE IT ALL!  Religion without SOVEREIGN GRACE is religion without Jesus Christ.  Religion without Jesus Christ is religion without a new heart.  Religion without a new heart IS JUST SELF-RIGHTEOUS, WASTED, SINFUL MOTION.
