We belong to God

--1 Corinthians 6:19-20--

“It is true that all people belong to God, as creatures to their Creator, as property to its owner, as subjects to their ruler.  All things and all people were made by God and for God and all are ruled by God’s sovereign will.  This is God’s right as the absolute Sovereign of all his creatures (Romans 9:15 - 26).  But we who believe belong to God as a child belongs to its father, as a wife to her husband, as a willing bondslave to his master.  Ours is an intimate, loving, family relationship with the eternal God.

We belong to God by the sovereign purpose of his grace.  In eternity God said, ‘I will be their God; and they shall be my people.’   Were it not for God’s electing grace, no one would ever be saved.  Indeed, were it not for God’s election and determination to save some, the world would never have been created.  We belong to God because he chose us as his own (2Thess. 2:13 - 14).

We are the Lord’s by the special purchase of his Son.  ‘Ye are bought with a price,’ Paul said    It is not expected that the ungodly and unbelieving should seek the honor of Christ.  They were not redeemed by him.  But it is most reasonable that we should willingly give ourselves to the service of our Savior’s glory. He brought us out from under the curse of the law (Gal. 3:13).

Again, we belong to our God by the saving power of his Spirit (Eph. 2:1-4; Psalm 110:3).  We were lost, helpless, depraved and spiritually dead.  But the Spirit of God came to us and called us to life.  He created faith in our hearts and brought us to Christ by his sovereign, irresistible power and grace.  He made us willing, voluntary bondslaves of the Lord Jesus Christ.

And we belong to God by the solemn profession of our faith. Believers, following their Lord in baptism, publicly declare to all the world their faith in and heart allegiance to the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 6:4 - 6).  Baptism is the believer’s obedient, public confession of faith.  It identifies him as one who belongs to God. Since we belong to God, it is only reasonable that we should glorify God in our bodies and in our spirits, which are God’s.”

“Who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings.”

— Ephesians 1:3--

“All the goodness of the past, the present, and the future, Christ bestows upon His people.  In the mysterious ages of the past the Lord Jesus was His Father’s first elect, and in His election He gave us an interest, for we were chosen in Him from before the foundation of the world.  He had from all eternity the prerogatives of Sonship, as His Father’s only-begotten and well-beloved Son, and He has, in the riches of His grace, by adoption and regeneration, elevated us to sonship also, so that to us He has given ‘power to become the sons of God.’  The eternal covenant, based upon suretiship and confirmed by oath, is ours, for our strong consolation and security. In the everlasting settlements of predestinating wisdom and omnipotent decree, the eye of the Lord Jesus was ever fixed on us; and we may rest assured that in the whole roll of destiny there is not a line which militates against the interests of His redeemed.  The great betrothal of the Prince of Glory is ours, for it is to us that He is affianced, as the sacred nuptials shall ere long declare to an assembled universe.  The marvellous incarnation of the God of heaven, with all the amazing condescension and humiliation which attended it, is ours. The bloody sweat, the scourge, the cross, are ours for ever. Whatever blissful consequences flow from perfect obedience, finished atonement, resurrection, ascension, or intercession, all are ours by His own gift.  Upon His breastplate he is now bearing our names; and in His authoritative pleadings at the throne He remembers our persons and pleads our cause. His dominion over principalities and powers, and His absolute majesty in heaven, He employs for the benefit of them who trust in Him. His high estate is as much at our service as was His condition of abasement. He who gave Himself for us in the depths of woe and death, doth not withdraw the grant now that He is enthroned in the highest heavens.”

--C.H. Spurgeon

Why do free-will false religionists despise the doctrine of God’s eternal covenant of grace?  Why do they refuse to believe that the sin-atoning blood of Jesus Christ is referred to as the blood of the everlasting covenant (Heb. 13:20).  Because it exposes their false doctrine of man’s so-called free will as the most hideous, blasphemous false doctrine ever invented by self-righteous false religionists.  And the majority of professing Christians have foolishly and sinfully accepted that religious scam as the truth, in spite of what the Holy Inspired Word of God plainly declares to be true (2 Tim. 1:8 - 10; Rom. 9:13 - 16).

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

'Abraham was fully persuaded that, what God had promised, He was able also to perform’ (Romans 4:21).

“It is true that the Word of God gives assurance and confidence to faith, but FAITH IS IN OUR GOD!   It is the character of our God that makes His Word infallible and unchangeable.  It is because WE BELIEVE GOD and know His sovereignty that we can rest on His promises in Christ. ‘Hath He spoken and shall He not bring it to pass?’ (Isaiah 46:11).”

THE POTTER OF THE CLAY

“I recently went through a very nasty form of cancer that almost took my life.  That’s what I thought.  But God, who formed all things and continues to mold his people to conform to the image of His Dear Son had other plans. ‘For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren’ (Romans 8:29 KJV).

Just as salvation is a gift of God given to His children, which becomes our salvation worked in us to will and do of His good pleasure, it is anything but a pleasure at times when the potter is molding the clay which warreth against His Spirit.  ‘Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me’ (Isaiah 44:21 KJV).

We, the servants of God, are His workmanship to glorify and honour His son our Lord as His witnesses to all God would bring before us. ‘And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose’ (Romans 8:28 KJV).

I praise God, in the name of Jesus Christ, for his promises which are found in Jesus Christ.”

“It is by the revelation of Christ in the sinner’s heart that God persuades him to venture his soul in hope of a full, free, and complete reconciliation to God.  He awakens the sinner by a new birth to see that gospel preaching is the reading of the will and his inheritance and the testator of the will is seated at the right hand of God to make it sure.  It is called a good hope, a living hope, a sure hope, and an anchor of the soul.”

Pastor Darvin Pruitt

“If God is sovereign, and He is (Daniel 4:35); if we are begotten of God according to His own will, and we are (James 1:18); if the New Birth is not a result of the will of man, and it most certainly is not (John 1:18); then what is being preached from most pulpits is not from God.  Brethren, listen to the message that is being preached and if it contradicts God’s Word, COME AWAY FROM IT!  Irreverence to the inspired Word of God breeds irreverence to God Himself.”

CHRIST IS ALL

“He is absolutely sovereign, absolutely independent and free, and totally unhindered in all of His will and desire.  ‘He is of one mind, and who can turn Him? and what His soul desireth, even that He doeth’ (Job 23:13); Daniel 4:35; Isaiah 46:10; Ephesians 1:11).  He not only has eyes and ears to see and hear, but He saw and heard it all before ever there was anything to see and hear (Psalm 139).  He not only has feet and hands, but He goes where He pleases, does what He pleases, anytime He pleases.  He not only has a mouth to speak and speaks when He pleases, to whom He pleases, but every word He speaks accomplishes exactly what He pleases (Isaiah 55:11).  All who worship any other than THIS GOD are idolaters!!!”

“How great is our God whose hand paints every flower and shapes every leaf; who forms every bud on every tree and every infant in the womb; who feeds each crawling worm with a parent’s care and every insect that sleeps in the bosom of a flower; who opens the golden gates of day and draws the dusky curtains of the night; who measures every drop of rain, the whirling flakes of snow, and the sands of man’s earthly life; who determines alike the fall of the sparrow and the fate of a kingdom; who so overrules the tide of human fortune that, whatever befalls a man, come joy or sorrow, the believer readily declares, ‘It is the Lord: let Him do what seemeth Him good’.”

Spiritual Blindness

“It is not merely that the sinner cannot come to Christ, but he will not come to Christ that he may have life; it is not merely that he cannot see the truth, but that he loves darkness rather than light, and does not want to see. Sinners are not willing to see. The natural will itself is in bondage. It takes the divine will of God to overcome the wicked will of man by creating life where there was no life. This blindness is more than blindness of the natural eye.  It is blindness of heart, blindness of will, blindness of conscience, blindness of understanding, blindness of all things spiritual. You who are yet blind may raise your objections to my gospel but you are as unqualified to express an opinion about something you have never seen as a blind man is to argue with you about the color of an object.”

Pastor Clay Curtis
