“The salvation of the righteous is of the Lord”
“God sovereignty seeks those whom he has chosen. The sinner is not seeking after God. ‘There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God’ (Romans 3:11). God seeks the sinner whom he loved with an everlasting love and determined to save. In all the works of providence God is seeking his own. He so arranges things that the sinner whom he intends to save is brought to the place where God will be gracious to him. He sends a preacher to preach the gospel of his grace to that sinner. And he sends forth his Spirit in sovereign, irresistible power and grace to give that sinner life and faith in Christ and fetch his chosen ones to himself. The Lord God is not seeking to save all men. He seeks his own elect. The Good Shepherd seeks his own sheep. And he always finds them. What does the Scripture say? He seeks his sheep ‘until he find it’. And when he finds his sheep, he always brings it home.
God sovereignty saves his own elect. Did you know that the Word of God never talks about God ‘trying’ to do anything? God does not try to rule the world; he rules the world. God does not try to redeem; he has redeemed. God does not try to put away sin; he has put away sin. God does not try to justify; he justifies. God does not try to save; God saves. Every person who was chosen of God in eternity, every person who was redeemed by Christ at Calvary, every person who is called by the effectual, irresistible grace of God the Holy Spirit will be saved, without exception. This is what God says: ‘I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy’ (Romans 9:15 - 16). O Lord God, we rejoice to know and to declare that ‘Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power’ (Psalm 110:3). ‘Blessed is the man whom thou choosest and causest to approach unto thee’ (Psalm 65:4). ‘It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing’ (John 6:63).”
Excerpt from Don Fortner’s daily devotional book, Grace For Today
“The vast majority of preachers in our day, while claiming to believe that ‘Salvation is of the Lord’ (Jonah 2:9), actually preach that sinners save themselves. They clearly and boldly proclaim that the Holy Father loves all sinners and wills their salvation; that the eternal and incarnate Son of God loves and died to save all sinners; and that God the Holy ‘Spirit is striving to save all sinners. Consequently, they declare unto men and women, ‘God has done all that he can do. Now it is all up to you.’
One of their own camp, a Doctor and Professor of Theology, carries this teaching to its logical and ultimate conclusion. After saying that ‘the triune God has done, is doing, and always will do all that the triune God can do to save every man, woman and child on this earth’, he raises the issue of Hell. ‘What is Hell?’ he asks. ‘It is in an infinite negation. It is infinite chaos. And it is much more than that ……Hell is a ghastly monument to the failure of the triune God to save the multitudes who are there……Sinners go to Hell because God Almighty himself cannot save them. He did all he could. He failed.’
This, my brothers and Sisters, is not according to the Word of God (Isaiah 8:20). It is another god, another spirit, and another gospel! The only true God says, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure’ (Isaiah 46:10). See Daniel 4:35; Psalm 115:1-3; 135:6; Job 23:13; Psalm 110:3; John 17:2; Philippians 1:6; 2:12,13; Romans 8; John 6 & 10, etc. “

A note from your pastor:
My doctor is treating me for a problem with my vocal chords, and has strongly advised me not to preach for at least two weeks. So we have cancelled our Friday Night Bible studies and our evening worship services until our scheduled conference the last weekend of this month. Until then, we are honored to have Brothers Steve Doyle, John Reeves and Michael Smith as our preachers and teachers. Please remember all of us in your prayers. Thank you!

SUGGESTED BIBLE READINGS FOR THIS WEEK

Exodus 37 Psalm 80 John 15
Exodus 38 Psalm 81 John 16
Galatians 6 Ephesians 1 Ephesians 2
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
The obvious manifestation of a false preacher’s hatred for God is his encouragement for sinners to trust in something they have done to earn God‘s mercy, rather than what God has done for sinners. The perfect redeeming work of Jesus Christ is the one and only reason God has mercy on any hell-deserving sinner (Eph. 1:3 - 7; 4:32).
The obvious manifestation of true saving faith is when a convicted, sinner falls down before the exalted Christ of God, renouncing all works of the flesh, including the false doctrine of man’s so-called free will, and rests only in Jesus Christ the God-man, and what He accomplished for His chosen people while He was here on this sin-cursed world (Gal. 3:13; 4:4 - 6; Phil. 2:5 - 11). “The doctrines of original sin, election, effectual calling, final perseverance, and all those great truths which are called Calvinism - though Calvin was not the author of them, but simply an able writer and preacher upon the subject - are, I believe, the essential doctrines of the Gospel that is in Jesus Christ. Now, I do not ask you whether you believe all this - it is possible you may not; but I believe you will before you enter Heaven.”
--C. H. Spurgeon

“I recently heard of someone who claimed to believe the grace of God in salvation, yet they were having trouble with the doctrine of election. The problem they are really having is with true grace. You see, grace in the true meaning of the word can only mean one thing ... UNEARNED FAVOR!
Most people think God looked down through time to see who would believe on Him and elected them accordingly. But that means that person earned salvation by believing, and God had to choose that person because of what they did. But NO! GRACE IS UNEARNED FAVOR, and since no one has earned, or merited God’s salvation and favor, then it stands to reason that God must choose, or elect, whomever He decides.”

“True faith is built upon the strongest evidence possible - the WORD OF GOD! True faith is a total dependence upon the LORD JESUS CHRIST for all our needs; such as forgiveness, sanctification, peace, and eternal life. The believer renounces all confidence in his flesh, rejoices only in Christ Jesus, and worships God in spirit. He feeds upon Christ as the Bread of Life, embraces Christ as his wedding garment, derives all strength and comfort from Christ, and trusts himself to the care of Christ as his shepherd, teacher, priest, and King. This is the life of faith.”
Pastor Henry Mahan

“THE WORLD BY WISDOM KNEW NOT GOD” (1 Cor. 1:21).
“What did the philosophy of Greece do for its disciples? It made them ignorant worshipers of an ‘unknown God’ (Acts 17:23). The inscription on their altar published to the universe their ignorance and shame.
How can I know God? Where can I find Him? Can science and philosophy tell me? Have they ever told anyone? No, never. ‘The world by wisdom knew not God.’ The schools of ancient philosophy could only plunge the human mind into darkness and hopeless bewilderment, and the schools of modern philosophy are not one bit better. They give no certainty, no safe anchorage, no solid ground of confidence, only hopeless speculation, torturing doubt, wild and baseless theory. That’s all human philosophy in any age or of any nature has to offer an earnest seeker of truth. We are not sent to creation to learn who God is, though we see His power, wisdom and goodness there. We are not sent to the law, though we see His holiness and justice there. No, if we want to know Whom and What God is, we are to look into the face of Jesus Christ, Who dwelt in His bosom before all worlds, Who was His eternal delight, the object of His affections. How then are we to know God? If such a stupendous result hangs on this knowledge; if to know God is life eternal, and Jesus says it is (John 17:3), then how is He to be known? ‘No man hath seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him’ (John 1:18). Here we have the answer. Christ reveals God to the soul and reveals the Father to the heart.”

GLORY TO GOD ALONE
“When I first took over the defense of the Gospel, I remember what Doctor Stauptz said to me. ‘I like it well’, said he, ‘that the doctrine which you proclaim gives glory to God alone and none to man. For never can too much glory, goodness, and mercy be ascribed unto God.’ These words of the worthy Doctor comforted and confirmed me. The Gospel is true because it deprives men of all glory, wisdom, and righteousness and turns over all honor to the Creator alone.”
